Nominations are open for Mayor’s Civic Awards

Nominations are now being invited for Croydon’s 2016 Civic Awards.

Since 2012 the awards have been held to celebrate the countless hours of commitment demonstrated by the many local people who dedicate themselves to helping others.  The awards recognise the extraordinary efforts made by groups or individuals who volunteer to make life better for other people in Croydon, but who never expect to be rewarded.

These exceptional local people and organisations’ dedication and achievements deserve to be honoured. They showcase the sorts of outstanding contributions made every day to improve the life of others living in Croydon.

Last year’s winners included scout leader George Campbell, retired Squadron Leader Peter Skinner, and the Croydon College UNICEF student group.

Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, said: “There are so many people and organisations in Croydon who selflessly give up their time and put a huge amount of effort into making other people’s lives better. These awards are our way of saying a huge ‘thank you’ and providing recognition for their dedication.”

Anyone who knows such exceptional individuals, groups or organisations can nominate them for their outstanding services.

The five categories are:

•    Volunteer of the Year
•    Young Achiever of the Year
•    Group of the Year
•    Business of the Year
•    Lifetime Service to Croydon

To nominate an individual, group or organisation, please visit the awards page online at www.croydon.gov.uk/civicawards.

The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 20 September 2016.

Over the years local businesses (like AIG) have generously sponsored the worthy cause of recognising our amazing heroes.  Winners will be announced at a civic ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Croydon in October.
