Apply for primary school places

Parents of children who are starting school in September 2018 have only a few more days to complete and submit primary school applications for their children.

Families with a child aged four or who will be four on or before 31 August 2018, must apply for their reception place by Monday 15 January 2018. Details of the application process, with step-by-step instructions, can be found on the council’s website and in the Admissions to Primary School Prospectus.

Families should use all six preferences and consider them carefully before submitting the form. To be offered a place, a child must meet the admissions criteria of the school. If the child does not get their first or second choices, the council needs to know which schools would be their other choice. Without this information, families could be offered a school that they would not have chosen.

“Starting school is a really exciting time in a child’s life, but making a decision about where to send them and applying for a place can be daunting.

“Parents play a really important role in helping things to run smoothly for their children, by ensuring that their application is properly completed and submitted on time. We are delivering a school place for every child, but you need to get your application in on time in order to be considered for your preferred schools.”

Councillor Alisa Flemming, cabinet member for children, young people and learning

Families will receive details of their primary school offer by email on the evening of 16 April 2018.
