Young people across Croydon will have a new safe space to play in as the borough celebrates World Car Free Day.
Nine different Play Streets, including two school Play Streets, will take place across Croydon to mark the worldwide celebration.
The Play Streets and School Play Streets see sections of roads temporarily closed to through traffic giving children a new safe space to play. Residents and emergency services will still be allowed access via a staffed barrier in each street.
The Play Streets were all set up after residents approached the council to ask for help organising their event.
They will take place on:
- Orleans Road, Upper Norwood, between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday 22 September
- Farm Fields, Sanderstead, between 1.20pm and 4.30pm on Sunday 22 September
- Cumberland Road, Woodside, between 10am and 6pm on Sunday 22 September
- Westfield Avenue, Sanderstead, between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday 22 September
- Churchill Road, Purley Oaks, between 9.30am and 6pm on Sunday 22 September
- South Vale, Crystal Palace, between 10am and 12pm on Sunday 22 September
- Apostle Way, Thornton Heath, between 1pm and 2pm on Sunday 22 September
Robert Fitzroy Academy will host a school Play Street on Brampton Road from 2.30pm to 5pm on Friday 27 September and Cypress School will host one on Cypress Road from 2pm to 5.30pm on the same day.
