Croydon Council is looking for creative ideas to help revitalise the town centre subways, with a new competition launched today.
‘Reimagine Croydon’s Subways’ is open for submissions until 10 January 2020, and proposals can be for any or all of the six subways located around Croydon town centre.
Shortlisted ideas will be made available for the public to comment on from 31 January until 16 February. The public’s comments, and the feasibility of each design will then be assessed by a judging panel who will make a final decision, with the winners announced on 27 February.
The six subways are located at:
- Croydon Minster
- Old Town roundabout
- Park Lane gyratory
- Addiscombe Road
- Lansdowne Road
- Segas House
The competition is open to individuals, community groups, schools, students, designers and architects. The submissions will be split into three categories – professional, non-professional and under-18s – with winners and runners up to be announced in each.
When submitting ideas, people are being asked whether the proposals would be for a specific subway or all of them, whether it would be temporary or permanent and to consider any cost of maintaining the space.
