Registered voters in Croydon can now give feedback to a council-run consultation on a review of the borough’s polling districts for future local or national elections.
When there are elections Croydon’s parliamentary constituencies are divided into polling districts, and the number of polling stations in each district depends on its number of registered voters.
To reflect local population changes since the last electoral boundary review in 2017, Croydon Council is proposing to change some local polling districts and stations. Full details can be found on the council website.
These proposals include:
• Amending boundaries so some addresses come under different districts and polling stations
• Creating new polling stations
• Merging two polling districts into one
Under the Representation of the People Act 1983, and the Electoral Administration Act 2013, the council is now consulting the public on these proposed changes until Monday 2 September, and any local registered voter in Croydon may give the council any comments and suggestions of alternative polling venues. Representations will also be considered from anyone who has particular expertise on access to premises or facilities for persons who have different forms of disability.
Final proposals for any changes will need agreement at a Full Council meeting before coming into effect from 1 February 2020.
