“I’d personally like to thank the volunteers and council staff who helped the hundreds of residents who had to leave their homes as part of the emergency services response to this incident.

“I saw for myself the many volunteers, including those from the Red Cross, that worked through the night at the rest centres, where they helped displaced residents by providing food, bedding and other essentials such as medication, toiletries and mobile phone chargers. Meanwhile other volunteers and members of council staff helped with transport and liaised with contractors at the scene to ensure residents could return to their homes as quickly as possible.

“I’d also like to thank the emergency services for their quick response and all they do to keep Croydon and its residents safe.”
