Croydon Place Review Panel officially launched

Croydon’s first Place Review Panel, responsible for scrutinising and challenging the design of the borough’s future development proposals, was officially launched last week.

With an increased number of high profile development proposals being submitted in Croydon, the panel will elevate the quality of new developments across the borough by providing independent, expert advice on all projects related to Croydon’s built environment, including key development schemes, infrastructure, and public realm.

Architecture, landscape architecture, regeneration, construction, culture and heritage are amongst the professionals that make up the 22 multi-disciplinary panel, which was established by the council. Meeting for one review day every month, the panel will be responsible for reviewing designs proposed for Croydon. Each review panel will be made up of one chair and five panellists.

The launch event on Wednesday, officially welcomed the high calibre panellists to Croydon and followed two briefing days for all panel members.

Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning

“I am delighted to officially welcome the Croydon Place Review panellists to the borough. Croydon deserves the very best in design and we look forward the panel’s guidance and expertise on key developments.

“Croydon is rich in its variety of different landscapes, buildings, places and its people. It is also an area of growth, with opportunity for high quality development to meet the needs of our borough’s diverse community and different places.

“The Place Review Panel will complement the council’s award-winning spatial planning and development teams, promoting design and quality architecture to make Croydon even better.”
