Croydon residents sign up for Brick by Brick homes

Hundreds of Croydon people have registered an interest in new homes – half of them affordable – being delivered by Brick by Brick, the development company set up by the council.

Over 430 borough residents have now signed up wanting one of Brick by Brick (BxB)’s 1,200 planned homes, either for sale or under shared ownership. The first of these are now available to borough residents.

To date, Brick by Brick (BxB) has been granted planning permission for more than 35 sites across the borough, and the latest developments received planning permission last week.

“This is great news. BxB is giving hundreds of families in Croydon the opportunity to get brand new, quality homes through affordable rent, by buying them or through shared ownership.

“The incredible response to the call-out for interested local people shows the high demand for this kind of initiative. Brick by Brick is one of many innovative schemes Croydon Council is developing to address the housing crisis and to provide homes for our residents at a price they can afford.”

Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning

Croydon Council set up BxB as part of its drive to deliver much-needed new homes, with half of the development company’s new properties to be affordable housing. Of these, around half will be let by Croydon Affordable Homes at a maximum of 65% of the market rate.

As part of its commitment to ‘use local first’, BxB is also working with local contractors and sub-contractors to find jobs for local people through job brokerage service Croydon Works. This is delivered by a partnership between Croydon Council, Croydon College and Job Centre Plus to provide employability support and a free-to-use recruitment service for the residents and businesses of Croydon. BxB has already provided work for two local residents, who have painted hoardings on Brick by Brick sites in Upper Norwood (Auckland Rise and Ravensdale) and Coulsdon (Homefield Road).
