I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of every volunteer in this great borough of Croydon. I am truly proud to be Mayor of such a talented and passionate borough.”

Cllr Hamida Ali, Cabinet Member for Communities, Safety and Justice, said: “It is hugely important that we honour members of our communities for the service they give to Croydon.  As Vice Chair of Croydon’s Opportunity and Fairness Commission, I witnessed first-hand the sheer scale of voluntary activity that hundreds of volunteers undertake to support their neighbours across the borough – day in and day out. I was then, and still am, truly impressed by our amazing volunteers here in Croydon. Congratulations – and the best of luck – to all the finalists!”

The event’s Gold Sponsor and sponsor of the Lifetime Service award are Kier Group. The other sponsors are Veolia, Croydon Partnership, Axis and AIG.

Mitesh Solanki , service director at Kier, said: “Kier Highways are delighted to support the Croydon Mayor’s Civic Awards in 2016. Congratulations to all the finalists. The contribution made to the community is outstanding and sets an example for us all; as both organisations and individuals. We are really looking forward to hearing more about the fantastic accomplishments that give us inspiration for how we can help benefit the customers and communities we serve.”
