Croydon’s Ambition Festival is making tickets to its Saturday night headline show free in order to emphasise the council’s ongoing investment in culture for the borough.
This follows the recent addition of of Radio 2’s Folk Award-winning duo, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker to the programme. They join acclaimed British/Asian musical stars, Circle of Sound, at the top of the Ambition Festival Saturday night bill.
“We’ve done our best to keep as much of the festival as we can free, and we decided that this Saturday night headline event is one where we want people to come along and experience the best of two well-matched flavours of music.
“Our artistic talent scouts have had their eyes on Josienne and Ben for some time as they‘ve now been nominated for four BBC folk awards. Their recent win sealed the deal and we were delighted when they agreed to join one of our big concert hall shows.”

Whether interpreting centuries old songs or singing their own authentic lyrics, Josienne’s jewel-like voice and Ben’s musical tact and flair for arrangement mean their live performances always receive rapturous reviews. Their latest release ‘Nothing Can Bring Back the Hour’ was also nominated for a Best Album award and was one of the most anticipated releases of 2014 with outstanding reviews.
Circle of Sound is a collaboration between Soumik Datta on the 19-stringed Sarod and drummer Bernhard Schimpelsberger.
Resonating with deep Indian ragas, urban beats, glockenspiels, and a spirited rock attitude, they create a powerful fusion that the BBC describes as “the vanguard of British Asian music.”
