Croydon’s libraries will be ringing with the sound of young musicians at a series of showcase performances this June.
The shows are free to attend and will demonstrate the range and skill of many of Croydon’s talented young primary-age musicians.
Organised by Croydon Music and Arts (CMA), the council’s music service for young people, the ‘Off the Shelf’ series will also allow parents the chance to encourage their children to pick up an instrument themselves.
Music teachers will be on hand at every performance to discuss options and possibilities.
With 50 years’ experience of music making, CMA is introducing new ‘Star Classes’ for those in years 3-6 which will allow children to learn any instrument they wish. Even better, lessons are free of charge.
Barbara Peacock, Croydon’s executive director for people, said: “Learning an instrument is a hugely enjoyable thing to do and allows children to fully express their creative natures. These shows won’t only give people the opportunity to hear just how talented the performers are, they will also show how our libraries can be used for so much more than just borrowing books.”

There is an additional open evening at Ashburton Library on Wednesday 5 July from 6pm for anyone interested in getting his or her child enrolled.
