Helping young people have a good summer holiday

Young people can enjoy a wide range of free activities, events and support services in Croydon this summer as part of the Choose Your Future campaign

The campaign aims to support young people to make positive choices, and Croydon’s youth engagement team is aiming the holiday fun at young people aged eight to 19 (or up to 25 with additional needs) with parks events, pop-ups and projects.

The projects, taking place in venues across the borough, and include everything from drumming workshops and employability workshops to Youth Voice, where young people share ideas and meet decision makers.

The park pop-ups sessions run from 1-5pm, with a range of activities, including sport, art and games at:

  • Tuesday 14 August, Grange Park, Coulsdon
  • Wednesday 15 August, Wandle Park
  • Tuesday 21 August, Shrublands Laurel Crescent (ball court)
  • Wednesday 22 August, Wilford Road Recreation Ground.

Other Croydon town centre events (also 1-5pm) include exam result support on Friday 17 and Friday 24 August, and arts, board games and craft activities and on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 August.

These events will be attended by a range of partner services that support young people, including Palace for Life Foundation, which inspires through sport; the CDI talk bus – an advice and information service; the sexual health team; Onside Youth Zone; Music Klub; and substance misuse service, Turning Point and White Hut Studios.

Councillor David Wood, deputy cabinet member for safer Croydon and communities, said: “We want to give young people a voice, so the activities on offer have been developed in consultation with young people in Croydon.

“Creating positive opportunities is at the heart of Croydon’s Choose Your Future campaign, which is about supporting and encouraging young people to make the right choices in life.”
