Litterers prosecuted in court

Croydon Council’s clampdown on fly-tippers and litterers has now reached 198 successful prosecutions after the latest case on Tuesday.

At Croydon Magistrates’ Court, Pascaline Djiemegwo, aged 32, of Princess Road in Selhurst, was ordered to pay a total of £834 for littering a blue carrier bag of household waste onto a public footpath in the same road on 22 October 2017.

At another hearing on Tuesday 15 May, also at Croydon Magistrates’ Court, Lovia Bonsu, of Brigstock Road in Thornton Heath, was ordered to pay a total of £400 for littering two black sacks and cardboard boxes in Raymead Passage on 22 October 2017.

As part of its Don’t Mess with Croydon – Take Pride campaign against fly-tipping and littering, the council has prosecuted 198 people in court, seized over 35 vehicles suspected of being used to store or dump fly-tipping, and signed up 345 volunteers who lead community clean-ups.

“Everyone in the borough has a responsibility towards both the environment and their neighbours to dispose of their rubbish properly, and our officers will continue to tackle offenders whose thoughtlessness blights their local area.”

Councillor Stuart Collins, deputy leader – Clean Green Croydon
