New £100k youth arts fund launched

A new £100k youth arts fund has been launched by the council to support more creative projects, programmes and events by, and for, young people in Croydon.

Young people aged 14-24 who live, work and study in the borough can apply for up to £2,000 in groups of two of more to develop a new creative idea or project. This could involve music, dance, film, visual art or performance.

Non-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £7,500 from the fund, for projects where young people are actively involved in the development, leadership and delivery.

Organisations can also apply to the youth arts fund for partnership grants, helping them to secure funds from other bodies such as Arts Council England or the Big Lottery for youth-led projects. For these grants, the funding from the council is dependent on the external funding being secured.

Priority will be given to projects involving young people who have not previously been involved with the arts and those from disadvantaged groups. Also, to projects that help more young people access and participate in the arts.

“I am absolutely delighted to announce our new £100k youth arts fund. We want Croydon to be a place where creativity is valued, talent is nurtured and young people are encouraged and supported to follow their dreams. As a council we are investing significantly in Croydon’s cultural scene, putting it at the heart of our regeneration. Our new youth arts fund will help to ensure that our young people are at the centre of this and able to access and benefit from every opportunity our cultural evolution brings.””

Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport

Applicants must be resident, studying or working in Croydon. For grants to groups of two or more young people, you will need a designated sponsor who will vouch for your project and receive the funds on your behalf.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss their applications in advance – for more information, how to apply and who to contact, visit www.croydon.gov.uk/youthartsfund
