This Wednesday, 11 October, Croydon’s LGBT+ community will be hosting a social event at BoxPark to help mark Coming Out Day.
The day is the anniversary of when, in 1987, half a million people marched on Washington for lesbian and gay rights. Known as ‘The Great March’, this was also the first public display of the famous ‘Aids Memorial Quilt‘.
Each year across the world Coming Out Day continues the spirit of that march to promote a safe world for LGBT+ individuals to live truthfully and openly.
Staff from many local inclusive employers, including Croydon Council, Boxpark, HM Land Registry, HM Revenue and Customs, The Home Office, Mott MacDonald, and Optivo have organised the evening to show solidarity for anyone who wants guidance and support on coming out.
Running from 5.30pm – 9pm the event is free entry and everyone is welcome.
