Nominate a young star for a special award

Nominations are now open for the STAR Awards 2019 as Croydon prepares to celebrate the many talents and achievements of its young people in care and care-leavers.

At last year’s inaugural event, more than 90 young people received special recognition at a glittering awards ceremony. Every young person who was nominated was invited to the event and received certificates and trophies for a huge range of achievements, from academic prowess to personal journey.

This year’s awards are open to all young people aged 8-18 who are in the care of Croydon Council, and to care-leavers up to the age of 25.

Anyone – social workers, foster carers, teachers, families and members of the community – including young people themselves – can nominate a young person for something special they have done while in or since leaving care. You can nominate them here. Nominations must be completed by midnight Monday 30 September.

With more than 15 categories, the council wants to celebrate the achievements of as many young people as possible and will consider each and every nomination submitted. Winners will receive their awards at a glittering ceremony at Fairfield Halls, Croydon on 8 November 2019.

“We are proud of all the young people we look after – they are inspirational, each and every one of them. We want to recognise them for the journeys that they make, for everything they achieve and being the stars that they are. If you know someone who deserves an award, we want to hear from you.”

Councillor Alisa Flemming, cabinet member for children, young people and learning
