Santa Claus is on his way to Croydon to kick off the town’s newest Christmas event in style.
Saint Nick’s arrival at the first Croydon Winter Festival at Ashburton Park sees him forsaking his traditional sleigh. He’s still going to be flying in but this time by helicopter!
For this 21st century twist on the arrival of the most anticipated guest of the season Santa will touch down in the main field of Ashburton Park on Saturday 9 December at 12.30pm where he will be met by his elves to greet waiting children and families at Croydon Winter Festival.
Among the fun on offer will be the outdoor Ice Rink and bookings are already rolling in for the 45 minute sessions.
Santa’s Grotto will be close by, next to the specially constructed Winter food chalets, which include a continental swing grill, mince pies, crepes a carvery, veggie treats, hot chocolate, and barista style coffee. There will be a separate festive bar with mulled wine & seasonal drinks where grown-ups can sit and take in the yuletide atmosphere.
The Elves will be busy with bookings for Santa’s Grotto already growing, but in between look out for them when visiting the Winter-themed fair rides and Games of skill.
In advance of Santa’s arrival, on Friday 8 December The Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Toni Letts will switch the Christmas Tree lights on at 6.35pm and inspect the new facilities.
Speaking of the impending launch of the first Croydon Winter Festival, South Coast Events boss Monty Hammond said:
“This has been a project that we as local entertainment operators have had in planning for several years and we are delighted to be able to bring family fun to the people of Croydon at this time of year.”
He added:
“We have worked hard, as a family ourselves to create a full sized real ice rink and themed entertainment in a magical atmosphere for local people, something that we hope will bring happiness to residents from Croydon and visitors to the town, at affordable prices.”
Getting to Croydon Winter Festival could not be easier with plenty of local buses and Woodside Tramstop in Spring Lane on the edge of the park.
The fun continues daily (closed on Christmas day) until 2 January 2018.
