Sign up to country’s biggest spring clean and make a difference in your community

The month-long Great British Spring Clean is now underway and there’s never been a better time to get involved and make a difference in your community.

The annual event empowers people to take action and combat litter in their local areas. Croydon Council supports a network of 355 street champions who run hundreds of litter picks throughout the year.

The council provides tools, help and support to the street champions and helps them organise the litter picks.

The first three litter picks got underway on Saturday at Park Hill Park, Addington Park and Thornton Heath Rec. There will be seven more litter picks throughout the Great British Spring Clean taking place on:

·      Saturday 30 March Friends of Manor Farm nature space and Norbury Park RA spring clean – 11am until 1pm, SW16 4JT
·      Saturday 6 April Cup Cake Women’s Institute, Grange Park litter pick – 10am to 12pm, CR5 1EA
·      Saturday 6 April The New Creation Assembly for all Nations, 101-105 Portland Road, SE25 4UN. Litter pick from the church around surrounding roads.

“Our street champions do fantastic work throughout the entire year but the Great British Spring Clean is the perfect reason to get involved alongside more than 400,000 volunteers nationwide.

“There are a whole host of events across the borough in the coming weeks, so why not get involved in one of the litter picks or set up your own?”

Councillor Stuart Collins, deputy leader – Clean Green Croydon
