Summer of free swimming for under-16s

Free swimming for under-16s is once again on offer at council pools across Croydon this summer.

The programme of free swimming sessions runs until 31 August, allowing young people to enjoy the water throughout the summer holidays.

The sessions are available at the council’s leisure centres in Purley, New Addington, Thornton Heath, South Norwood and Waddon.

Cllr-GodfreyCouncillor Timothy Godfrey, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport

“This is a popular summer initiative and we’re glad to be able to offer it once again this year.

“Running in tandem with the council’s Heart Town status, the health benefits associated with regular swimming are well documented, but can’t be overstated.

“For under-16s, the free swimming offers a chance to get out of the house, away from the television and computer screens, burn off some excess energy and boost their levels of fitness. On top of that, of course, it’s also great fun.”

Participants must be Croydon residents and will need to complete an application form signed by a parent or guardian, as well as paying a one-off sign-up fee of £2. Previous participants will be required to re-register.

Proof of address and date of birth (birth certificate) will be required in order to register.
