October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month and Croydon is marking this by celebrating the staff who support colleagues experiencing this crime.
Croydon’s FJC started its Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Ambassadors Programme in 2016, and now has 40 trained volunteers.
Council staff volunteered for the six-hour training, which included how to understand the impact this crime can have, to listen non-judgementally, and to sign-post colleagues to appropriate professional help.

“Anyone can experience domestic abuse, regardless of their social background, age, disability, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation, and we would encourage everyone to seek help.
“Our workplace ambassador programme aims to reduce the fear and lack of understanding around supporting someone experiencing abuse, and to encourage anyone in need of help to come forward.
“The ambassadors provide incredible support to colleagues who may be experiencing abuse at home.”
