Thornton Heath public space to host activity festivals this summer

Residents in Thornton Heath can get active this summer at free festivals aimed at boosting physical and mental wellbeing.

Three festivals will take place on the Ambassador House forecourt with activities including Zumba, Bollywood dance, tennis, mindfulness and table tennis available for people to try out on the following dates between 10am and 3pm:

• Saturday 15 June
• Sunday 7 July
• Sunday 21 July

Depending on what is most popular, there will be free follow-up six-week courses for residents to enjoy, enabling them to remain active at no extra cost.

In February, Croydon Council announced a team comprising of Compendium, Studio Yu and Tomos, working under the name CR7 Square, would be leading on the design titled Made in Thornton Heath.

The free activities are adding to plans to revitalise the forecourt, which will feature a new bus stop garden and artwork from Thornton Heath artists Van Dang and Bareface. Opportunities for residents to get involved in the works will take place over the coming weeks.

“These events form part of an important programme of work to make better use of Ambassador House forecourt and provide a new public space for Thornton Heath.

“The festivals provide a chance to enjoy a new activity, or fall back in love with an old one – all for free. Come along and get involved – everyone is welcome!”
