Tune in, eat out, step up and try it – on the High Street

This summer promises a feast of entertainment with Street Live, a new programme of live outdoor entertainment on Croydon’s High Street with an eclectic mix of acts.

Croydon council and the Croydon BID are launching Street Live to offer live music, dance and theatre on the High Street, transforming the area into a hive of activity for all ages.  The programme will deliver 48 days of activity from June to September, offering something a little different for shoppers, diners and those passing by.

As part of the programme, the council and the BID will be working with creative arts company Scanners Inc. to deliver events aimed at getting everyone involved this summer.  Folk Dance Remixed perform on 23 June – a fresh, quirky, colourful and magical collision of traditional English folk and hip hop dance and music. Closely followed with the Inverted Company and Simple Cypher on 21 July, renowned artists who will perform dazzling tricks and feats of human strength.

Fit Street will bring exercise to the streets of Croydon on 11 and 12 August, with yoga, HIIT sessions, hula-hoop waist toning and meditation.

“Our commitment to the arts, music and culture continues as we support the Street Live event series aimed at offering something for everyone this summer. The High Street is the perfect venue for people to enjoy some truly talented acts.”

Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport

Accompanied by the recently-announced Wimbledon Screen in the High Street, showing you all the tennis action during the first two weeks of July, Street Live is the ideal opportunity to enjoy all the action right in the town centre.

Street Live also welcomes several sessions from Beats and Eats, a new busk stop introducing some of our finest musical talent, workshops from Human Zoo Theatre Company, and the much-loved pop up music gig, Crowd.

Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID said: “Street Live is a wonderfully diverse and rich programme of events designed to offer something for everyone. In doing so, we very much hope to support our businesses in attracting those that live, work and visit the town centre. What is clear is that this summer, Croydon town centre has a lot to offer.”
