Wandle Park cleared as Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride partners with Great British Spring Clean

Croydon Council staff gave up an hour of their time on Thursday 11 April, volunteering to clear up the area around Wandle Park.

In total 21 staff, including neighbourhood safety and environmental response officers, spent an hour collecting 25 bags of litter.

The team cleared the area around Factory Lane, Cuthbert Road, Westfield Road, Theobald Road, Pitlake and Derby Road as well as the park, where they found a pair of old socks.

The event was organised as part of 19 litter picks taking place during the Great British Spring Clean, which ends next weekend.

Street Champions, working as part of Croydon Council’s Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride campaign, help organise hundreds of litter picks across the borough throughout the year.

While there are still chances to make a difference this week as part of the annual Great British Spring Clean, residents can sign up to become Street Champions any time.

Street champions organise litter picks in their communities with full support from the council, which provides equipment and disposes of the rubbish at the end of the clear up.

“Well done to everyone who has organised a litter pick as part of The Great British Spring Clean or at another time.

“The events make a real difference, clearing valued and well-used land and helping bringing communities and neighbours closer together.”

Councillor Stuart Collins, deputy leader – Clean Green Croydon
