The housing developer set up by Croydon Council to deliver thousands of homes for local people opens its town centre showroom next week.
The council set up Brick by Brick in 2016 to boost local housing supply by developing more than 2,000 good-quality homes, with any profits from development to be reinvested in the borough. The homes are a mix of private sale, shared ownership, Help To Buy and affordable rented properties.
Brick by Brick’s shop in George Street will open from 5 March, with the first homes going on sale being from its Auckland and Ravensdale sites in Upper Norwood.
To date, over 800 people have registered for a Brick by Brick home and for two months all the new homes are available exclusively to Croydon residents. Once that time is over, they will go on sale on the open market.
Of the two Upper Norwood schemes being completed first, the Auckland Rise & Sylvan Hill development will provide 57 one- and two-bedroom flats, including 19 shared ownership homes. At the Ravensdale & Rushden development, 15 one- and two-bedroom flats and 15 two- and three-bedroom houses will be available for private purchase, with Help To Buy available.
These schemes’ first homes will be ready to move into in late spring and will be followed by Brick by Brick’s first all-affordable scheme in Thornton Heath called Flora Court, bringing 24 shared ownership flats and three affordable rented flats. All affordable rented homes will go to people on the council’s housing waiting list.
Brick by Brick is also building another 24 schemes which are either on site or coming into contract, with planning permission for many more sites at various stages of the planning process. A report outlining their plans to complete hundreds more homes over the next three years was presented to last night’s council cabinet meeting.
