Businesses urged to claim grant funding

Croydon businesses are being urged to collect their government grants to support them through the disruption caused by coronavirus.

In a major drive to help businesses access support, the council has contacted over 4,000 small businesses locally in a range of ways to ask them to take up the funding, but so far only received responses from around half of those. Over £17m has already been distributed to around 1200 businesses. ‘

Two grants are available as part of the support package announced by the government and the council is making the payments on their behalf.

All small businesses in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief as at 11 March, and therefore have a rateable value under £15k, can receive grant funding of £10,000.

Meanwhile retail, hospitality and leisure businesses across the borough, with rateable value between:

• £0 and £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000

• £15,000 and £51,000 will receive grant funding of £25,000.

Qualifying businesses need to verify their details with the council to enable grant payments to be made.

“Croydon’s small businesses are a vital and much-valued part of our local economy and it is an absolute priority for us to support them, now more than ever during this incredibly challenging time. We are working hard to reach out to all of them and ensure that they are accessing all the advice and support that we can offer, including their government grants, as well as ensuring that their voices are represented. I would urge anyone who has not yet been in contact with us to please, get in touch as soon as possible and find out how we can help.”
