Local businesses in Purley have voted to establish their own business improvement district (Bid) as part of the council’s regeneration plans for the borough’s district centres.
There are already Bids in Croydon and New Addington town centres.
They enable local businesses to have a greater say and make a difference in improving the area as a place to live, shop and work.
The Purley Bid has pledged to focus on improving accessibility and parking; image and marketing; a cleaner and greener environment; safer streets; and business engagement.
As a result of this afternoon’s ballot, Purley Bid will be officially launched on 1 February 2016.
A Bid offers services that complement those already provided by the council. These can include anti-crime and community security measures, higher levels of street cleaning and business support services.
“I’m delighted Purley businesses have voted to have their own business improvement district, something that is great news for Purley.
“A Purley Bid will give a strong voice to Purley businesses and see that this vital district centre is able to unlock its growth potential.
“It is perfectly poised to benefit directly from the regeneration in Croydon town centre, and I look forward to Purley Bid replicating the success of our two other Bids in Croydon and New Addington.”
