Can you help support people who have experienced trauma?

People who live and work in Croydon can sign-up to a free training programme to learn how to offer the right support and advice to residents who have experienced trauma.

Croydon Council’s free trauma-informed training will equip you with the knowledge and skills to recognise when people of all ages have experienced trauma, and help them feel heard, empowered and respected.

The training will help you to signpost friends, family, clients and customers who have experienced trauma to the right support.

The training programme, which is available online and face-to-face, has been developed using evidence and in partnership with Croydon residents to ensure that it meets the needs of local communities.

You can register your place for the free trauma-informed training here. A variety of dates are available, including evenings and weekends, particularly during June and July.

People can face trauma at any time in their life, which means that wherever you work, or wherever you live, you are highly likely to encounter someone who has experienced trauma within your community.

The council is working towards Croydon becoming a trauma-informed borough, improving the way local services and communities respond to children, families, and adults affected by adversities.

The trauma-informed training is being implemented with funding from Transport for London (TfL), and J3MS Consulting will lead the training sessions.

Rachel Flowers, Croydon’s director for public health, said: “Experiencing trauma as a child or adult can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on people’s safety, health, wellbeing – and every aspect of their lives. This in turn impacts everyone in our communities.

“Being offered the right support, in the right place, at the right time can make all the difference. That’s why we’re offering this training to everyone in Croydon – so that more of our residents are equipped to spot the signs of trauma in others and support them to get the help they need.”
