Croydon Council is inviting comments on proposed changes to the borough’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) reviewed draft charging schedule. The current CIL charges were set more than 10 years ago, in 2013, so it needs to be updated.
CIL is a charge that local authorities can set on developments to raise funds for infrastructure, facilities and services in the community. These would include roads and transport, schools, parks and open spaces, and improvements to public spaces.
The funding has helped to support the delivery of infrastructure in Croydon. CIL levies were previously used for education to build new or upgrade schools, upgrade highways, and for various community facility improvement projects.
The consultation is now open for comment, until 11.59pm on Wednesday, 11 June 2025. Residents, developers, businesses and partners can give their thoughts and get more information on the Council’s Get Involved website.
Feedback can be provided online, emailed, or posted in a hard copy, with the consultation documents available at all Croydon libraries and at Croydon Urban Room, in the Whitgift Centre.
After the consultation closes, there will be independent examination of all responses and the consultation documents. The outcomes of the examination and final revised CIL draft charging schedule is intended to go to a Full Council meeting for approval, with changes expected to be introduced in early 2026.
“As our borough grows, we know our residents need improved infrastructure and community facilities to support our development. We all benefit from good connectivity, upgrading our community facilities and enhancing our borough’s parks and open spaces.
“My priority is to make Croydon cleaner and safer for everyone, and it is important that development continues to positively contribute to our community. Do get involved and we are looking forward to hearing our residents’ and developers’ feedback.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
