The best local, national and international architects and landscape architects are being sought by Croydon Council to help shape one of the most important public spaces in the town centre.
Next month Croydon Council will launch a competitive tender process to appoint a highly-talented team to design Croydon’s Fair Field, a stunning new public space on the site formerly known as Fairfield Gardens or College Green.
Located in the heart of the town’s new cultural quarter, this new public space will be hugely important for the town centre, as a thriving cultural, civic and community hub and the setting for the Fairfield Halls, due to re-open next year after major refurbishment.
The public realm will complement Croydon’s new world-class performance arts centre, as well as the new housing and retail development by Brick by Brick, the development company set up by Croydon Council.
The council is looking for a team of highly ambitious and talented architects and landscape architects, who are committed to designing a high-quality space the borough will be proud of for many years to come. The council anticipates Fair Field will incorporate the use of water, lighting and other technologies, providing a platform for cultural and community activity linked to the Fairfield Halls.
“We’re looking for a design team who are as ambitious as us as a council and a borough to design an inspiring, sustainable and resilient public space at Fair Field.
“This will be a hugely important space for Croydon for many, many years to come. Some of the best in international, national and local music and entertainment will grace Fairfield Halls once it reopens and the cultural quarter is also home to Croydon College. We want to provide a fun, safe and uplifting experience for all to go alongside these institutions, which will draw people in in its own right.
“This will be a monumental scheme for future generations to enjoy and we’re really looking forward to seeing submissions from those who are just as passionate and ambitious about our borough as we are.”
