Council announces annual Windrush Day

A Croydon Windrush Day commemoration will be held annually to celebrate the contribution of Commonwealth British citizens to Croydon, it was announced today.

The announcement follows an event held at the Town Hall on Tuesday (22 May) for residents, which brought together speakers from local representatives and immigration specialists, to learn more about what is being done in response to immigration issues impacting the Windrush generation.

“Croydon will be the first local authority in the country to establish and celebrate an annual Windrush Day, in recognition of the rich diversity Commonwealth British citizens have brought to the borough.”

Councillor Tony Newman, leader of the council

The date of the annual Windrush Day will be announced in due course.
