New grass cutting machinery is being rolled out across the borough as part of a £1.5m investment into new equipment.
The Executive Mayor Jason Perry was joined by the cabinet member for streets and environment, Councillor Scott Roche and council staff in Sanderstead to see how the new machinery works.
As part of the £1.5m investment, there will be 17 new pieces of equipment including tractors, ride on mowers and specialist bank mowers to improve the service delivered to residents.
Mayor Perry saw the Grillo FD 2200 TS in action which cuts and collects grass so it is not left behind. This machine will be used to help create wildflower meadows, which is important for biodiversity and helps the pollinator corridor in the borough.
The funding has come from Croydon’s capital fund which aims to invest in the future of the borough.
“It’s good to see the new machinery starting to become operational so we can provide a better service to residents.
“It has been difficult, within the budget constraints, to offer a grass cutting service that we can be proud of. We are building on the changes made this year and will continue to improve next year as more machinery comes online.
“This shows that although we have a tight budget, we will continue to invest in the borough and make sure the residents’ needs are being met.”
