Whilst we all start to look forward to our festive break, the Council has ensured that residents and businesses can continue to access vital help and support needed at this time. Some changes may occur, so please check the Council website for most up to date details.

Waste services

From 25 December 2024 to 11 January 2025, waste collection dates will be delayed either by one, two or three days. Find out when your waste will be collected over the festive period. You can find your regular collection date here.

Real Christmas trees (ie not those that are plastic) will be collected and recycled from 6 January. Please place them out for collection on 6 January with all decorations removed, and the trees will be collected over the following two weeks. Put the tree close to the front of your property boundary so it is clearly visible, or leave it next to your general waste bin on your collection day, and we will collect it.

Household Reuse and Recycling Centres will be closed from midday on Christmas Eve, and all of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. If you need a bulky waste collection from your home, you can book one here.

Festive recycling newsletters have been delivered and can be downloaded from our website.

Residents may have more food waste at this time of year, but it can be recycled. To save festive scraps going to waste, order a food kitchen caddy. Please keep reporting fly-tipping and other waste issues on the Love Clean Streets app.

Leisure centres

The main and family pools at South Norwood Leisure Centre will be closed for essential maintenance and cleaning from 20 December until 2 January 2025, while the rest of the leisure centre will remain open and residents can use the pools at nearby Thornton Heath Leisure Centre. For more information, see our website or see Better Leisure.

Libraries

All Croydon’s libraries will be closed from 25 – 27 December. However, four libraries are open on Saturday 28 December (Coulsdon, Norbury, Selsdon, and Thornton Heath libraries from 9am-5pm). Residents can still access the digital library with thousands of free eBooks, digital magazines, comics and audiobooks. Join online at the libraries webpage.

As part of our new library provision, which will see nine libraries open at least five days per week including Saturday from April, there will be a phased extension to opening hours from 6 January 2025, with Ashburton, Purley and New Addington Libraries open an extra day, and Coulsdon open for two extra days. For more information on Croydon’s opening hours, see our seasonal hours leaflet.

Over Christmas, the library shuttle bus will run as follows:

Monday 23 December – Bradmore Green to Coulsdon

Monday 30 December – Bradmore Green to Coulsdon

Thursday 2 January 2025 – Shirley to Ashburton

Full service will resume from Monday 6 January 2025.
