Council services over Christmas and New Year

There will be a number of changes to council service opening times over the Christmas and New Year period, while making sure residents can continue to access vital help and support they need at this time.

The council’s Access Croydon and contact centre will be closed from Christmas Eve and reopen 29 December. Most issues at Access Croydon are dealt with on an appointment basis you can book an appointment in advance on our website to avoid a wasted journey. Below is a full list of opening times.

  • Friday 23 December ­— open (9am – 3pm)
  • 24 – 28 December — closed
  • 29 – 30 December — open (9am – 4pm)
  • 31 December – 2 January — closed

Croydon Family Justice Service will continue to provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse. The service will be open on weekdays as usual from 9am to 5pm apart from bank holidays. Contact the Family Justice Service on 020 8688 0100 for more information. Outside of these hours, the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline can be reached on 0808 2000 247. As always, if there is an emergency, dial 999.

Rubbish and recycling collections will change during the weeks beginning 26 December 2022, 2 January 2023 and 9 January 2023. Collections will be up to four days later than usual. Residents can check their collection dates for Christmas and New Year, as well as the new 2023 collection calendar by visiting our website.

The Household Reuse and Recycling Centres (HRRC) at Fishers Farm, Factory Lane and Purley Oaks will be open normal hours over the festive period except for Christmas Eve, when they will open 8.30am till 12noon. They will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

If you’ve opted for a real Christmas tree, make sure to recycle it. Croydon offers a free collection service – just leave your tree out in front of your property from 9 January 2023 and it will be collected over the next fortnight. If you prefer, you can also take your tree to your nearest HRRC.

Real trees must be left in a place where they will not block the pavement for pedestrians, parents with prams, and wheelchairs.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, Croydon libraries will be closed from 24 December 2022 until 2 January 2023. You can still access our digital library with thousands of free eBooks, digital magazines, comics and audiobooks. Residents who aren’t already a member, can join online at the libraries webpage.

Croydon’s emergency housing repairs service will continue as usual. Tenants and leaseholders can report an emergency repair on 020 8726 6101 where calls will be answered by our 24/7 service team.
