Croydon Council is working with the Met Police and partners to successfully protect residents from antisocial behaviour and criminal activity in their neighbourhoods.

The council takes a zero-tolerance approach to tenants causing misery to their neighbours and we will keep taking action and tackling perpetrators to make sure residents can feel safe.

A premises closure order was granted by Croydon Magistrates Court for a property in Tylecroft Road, Norbury, after a council tenant living there had been acting in an antisocial manner. The closure order means that the perpetrator is locked out of their property for up to three months.

Partial closure orders were also obtained by the council at two council blocks of flats in Thornton Heath. Laxton Court and Kettering Court have been issued with a partial closure order to prevent the flats and the communal blocks being used for illegal drug activity.

The partial closure order means those who enter the block to engage in criminal or antisocial activity can be removed from the premises and arrested by the police. Those who live in the block are not affected.

The council also placed security guards in one of the blocks to ensure residents’ safety. This allows only family members and genuine law-abiding visitors to enter the block.

A further outright possession order was granted by Croydon County Court where a resident in Ravensdale Gardens, Upper Norwood had forced entry into the property after causing damage to it, and then refused to leave.

“We will always take action to prevent antisocial behaviour and to ensure all our residents can feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to make our borough cleaner, safer and healthier.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
