Croydon will remember those who lost their lives in the Sandilands tram derailment on 9 November, at the eighth civic ceremony in New Addington.
Residents are invited to attend the service to pay their respects. It will be held at 11am on Saturday 9 November at Market Square, Central Parade, New Addington.
Councillor Kola Agboola, Croydon’s Civic Mayor, will welcome everyone to the event and read out the names of those who died, before observing a minute of silence. There will also be a prayer, and Fairchildes Primary School pupils will sing while flowers are laid.
The community will be joined by Croydon’s Executive Mayor, Jason Perry, corporate director of resources, Jane West, community leaders and first responders from the police, ambulance, and fire services.
Dane Chinnery, Donald Collett, Robert Huxley, Philip Logan, Dorota Rynkiewicz, Philip Seary and Mark Smith tragically lost their lives in the derailment. More than 60 people were injured in the tragedy, which took place near Sandilands tram stop on 9 November 2016.
If you have been affected by the tram derailment, there is support available. Croydon Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) offer a range of psychological therapies to those aged 18 years and over, who are registered with a Croydon GP.
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “Our community will once again unite on 9 November, as we do each year, with the families living with the sad loss of their loved ones. We will be there to support them and everyone else affected by the tragic events of November 2016.
“Eight years after the tragic Sandilands derailment, we still remember our seven residents who lost their lives that day. Our thoughts are always with them.”
