Croydon residents have once again shown their commitment to keeping their community clean and tidy by participating in a series of successful litter picks organised by various local groups during the Great British Spring Clean.
During the two-week event, volunteers from schools, resident associations, scout groups, and other community organisations came together to collect litter from locations across Croydon, including parks, town centres, and playing fields. Great British Spring Clean is an initiative from Keep Britain Tidy, aimed at promoting community participation in keeping local areas clean and tackling littering across the UK.
The successful litter picks carried out by the Croydon community, with the support of Croydon Council, are a testament to the dedication and commitment of its residents towards maintaining a clean and tidy environment for all.
The litter picks were carried out by numerous groups, including Riddlesdown Collegiate, Friends of Trumble Gardens, Spring Park Residents Association, The 2nd Selsdon and Addington Scout Group, Friends of the Bird Sanctuary, Smitham Primary PTA, Residents of Broad Green, Litter Free Norbury, Selsdon Residents Association, Friends of South Croydon Rec, Purley Bid, Friends of Norbury Hall Park, Friends of Upper Norwood Rec, and Chatsworth Road RA and Good Gym.
Volunteers dedicated their time and effort to clearing litter from various areas, including footpaths, woodlands, nature reserves, and town centres. The litter picks also helped in addressing issues of fly-tipping and post-match litter left scattered around playing fields.
Altogether, a total of 221 volunteers participated in the litter picks, resulting in the collection of 253 bags of litter including 15 bags of green waste.

Anyone interested in becoming a Street Champion or organising a litter pick in your area for a group of up to six people then please email champions@croydon.gov.uk notifying of the location, time and date you are planning to run the event in. The council can support by providing equipment including litter pickers, brooms, gloves and bags.
