Croydon residents are being encouraged to take part in Stoptober and quit smoking this October using the free, expert support across the borough.

Stoptober starts on 1 October and encourages people to stop smoking for 28 days, giving them a better chance of quitting for good. The campaign reminds people that it’s never too late to try, even if they’ve tried to quit before.

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. It can improve your breathing, reduce the risk of serious illnesses, help protect loved ones from second-hand smoke and save money.

Croydon residents can get free support through Live Well Croydon, which offers personalised advice, nicotine replacement products and ongoing encouragement. The service has already helped hundreds of local people quit smoking.

Live Well client Katrina, 44, said: “After 32 years of smoking, I finally decided to quit with support from Live Well. My adviser was so helpful and supportive throughout. I’m now four months smoke-free and would recommend the service to anyone who wants to quit.”

Residents can also access a free subscription to the Smoke Free app, including premium features, support from stop smoking advisers and up to 12 weeks of vape and/or nicotine replacement products.

Additional support is available through NHS Better Health and SmokeFree Croydon, which provides specialist support for people accessing mental health services, drug and alcohol treatment services, or experiencing homelessness.

Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said: “Stoptober is a great opportunity to join others across Croydon and access the free support available to quit smoking. Quitting can improve your health, save money and benefit the people around you. I encourage anyone thinking about quitting to take that positive step this October.”
