Croydon Council has been successful in a bid for funding from Arts Council England as part of its Creative People and Places Programme. The £750k award will be placed in the hands of local communities, empowering residents to shape, create, and take part in artistic and cultural experiences that reflect the borough’s rich diversity and creativity.
The funding application was led by a group of local organisations, including Stanley Arts, Reaching Higher, Croydon Council, CR0 Make Create, ARCC, Croydon BME Forum, and Croydon Neighbourhood Care.
A dedicated panel will guide the programme, making sure that community voices are at the heart of decision-making and development. It forms part of a calendar of cultural events on offer and builds on the success of Croydon’s year as London Borough of Culture.
This funding has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players, through support from The National Lottery and National Lottery Good Causes.
Michelle Walker, London Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “Creative People and Places is about empowering people to bring creativity into everyday spaces in ways that are important to them. We’re thrilled to support a new round of locally rooted projects that reflect the energy and diversity of London’s communities, from citizen-led assemblies and eco-focused events to youth-driven initiatives. With National Lottery funding, these programmes will help Londoners shape the cultural life of their neighbourhoods.”
