Residents and businesses can still have their say on seven Croydon Healthy Neighbourhood (CHN) schemes before the upcoming deadline.

A 6-month formal consultation that began at the end of September is set to close Friday (31 March) at midnight.

The CHNs limit the use of motor vehicles on local streets which were not built to handle high volumes of traffic. Improvements to the schemes have provided greater access for residents, carers, licensed taxis, and emergency services.

Many of the road closures that were enforced by planters are now replaced by ‘No Motor Vehicles’ restrictions and signs with agreed exemptions.

Public engagement with residents took place in February and March of this year, and the council is continuing to gather monitoring data on the schemes’ effects. This data will be collected and analysed throughout the remaining period of the experiment.

Street audits for the scheme are still underway, with Albert Road, Addiscombe and Broad Green schemes remaining. To take part, please contact us using the email address for each scheme:

The council will take a decision on the long-term future of the schemes in due course with feedback from the consultation to be used to determine if any further improvements are required.

Responses can be submitted online via the council website or by writing to: Order Making Section, Parking Design Team, Sustainable Communities, Regeneration & Economic Recovery, Croydon Council, Bernard Weatherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon, CR0 1EA.

The temporary schemes were put in place in spring 2020 in response to calls from residents to stop traffic cutting through their streets, causing safety concerns and increased noise.

Further information on the schemes can be found on the council website.
