Drop-in events to discuss state-of-the-art football and community hub proposals

Croydon Council is hosting two drop-in events to further discuss its plans for two new state-of-the-art football and community facilities in the borough.

As part of Sport England and the Football Association’s Parklife project, Croydon has the opportunity to receive £6–7million funding to provide two proposed football ‘hubs’; one at Purley Way Playing Fields and one at Ashburton Playing Fields.

The two drop-in events are follow-ups to the engagement that was held over the summer and will give people another opportunity to find out more about the proposals, see the latest plans and give their views. It is anticipated that a planning application will be submitted before the end of the year.

The Ashburton Playing Fields drop-in event is at St George’s Church Hall, Elstan Way, Croydon CR0 7PR, on Thursday October 4 between 4pm and 8pm.

The Purley Way Playing Fields drop-in event takes place on Friday October 12 at Waddon Youth and Community Centre, 85 Waddon Way; CR0 4HY between 4pm and 8pm.

Each site would benefit from two floodlit, full size, artificial ‘3G’ pitches, a new changing pavilion with a café, community spaces, and toilets. Enhanced pedestrian and cycle access would be provided, along with appropriate car parking.

Both sites would also benefit from enhanced children’s play spaces, and at Ashburton Playing Fields an indoor community fitness gym is included in the proposals.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in Parklife so far and we want to continue to be able to share the latest on these exciting plans with everyone as we move forward.

“Come along, ask questions, and find out more about the Parklife project and what it could mean for you.”
