Event on new homes proposed for New Addington

New Addington residents are invited to an event this weekend on early outline plans for more than 300 new homes that would be prioritised for local people.

Croydon Council and local developer Brick by Brick will be jointly hosting the drop-in event from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 7 December at Addington Community Centre in Central Parade about the housebuilder’s 341 proposed new homes, which include:

• 97 homes off King Henry’s Drive
• 55 homes in Arnhem Drive
• 28 homes next to Headley Drive

Visitors can speak to Brick By Brick’s architects and development team and give early feedback to help shape the proposals into a full application early next year.

The event also allows local people who would like a new home in their area, including shared ownership and affordable rented properties, to pre-register their interest in proposed developments and get involved in the design process of these local homes from an early stage.

A questionnaire will also be available at the event so visitors can outline the type of new home they are interested in, including tenure and number of bedrooms.

The 7 December event is open to anyone to attend, but particularly for anyone who lives in New Addington or Fieldway or has family connections there. In addition to this drop-in session, further events in New Addington and Fieldway are planned for January with Brick By Brick architects on the 20 individual sites.

Once Brick By Brick has taken on board all feedback, full proposals will be submitted for planning approval early in the New Year. If permission is granted, construction work would start in late 2020.

The council set up Brick By Brick in 2016 to build around 500 homes a year, including around half as affordable. The first homes are now complete, with hundreds more on site.

Brick By Brick already has planning approval for 29 homes in New Addington and Fieldway that are set for completion in 2020, including 20 affordable rented homes in Warbank Crescent and six in Uvedale Crescent.

“This is an opportunity to help shape Brick By Brick’s plans for new homes at an early stage where local people can give feedback on what size and mix of homes they want in their area.  Those on the housing waiting list will be able to have a real say on the proposed homes.

“If you want to see what Brick By Brick proposes and how the homes are intended for local people on the council’s waiting list, then come along on the 7th.”

Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes and Gateway services

Colm Lacey, CEO of Brick By Brick, said: “We’re really keen to ensure local people see the benefit of development activity, and that those who cannot currently access good-quality housing have the ability to do so. This event allows us to meet people who are interested in living locally and properly understand their needs so that we can ensure our developments have the greatest positive impact.”
