Extraordinary Council Meeting on directly elected mayor

Croydon Council will hold an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Monday (11 October) following yesterday’s governance referendum in which the majority voted for the council to have a directly elected mayor.
Councillors will be asked to approve the change to the council’s model of governance and then work will begin on making changes to implement a new directly elected mayor when that person takes office next May.
A report will be then brought to a future full council meeting so that these changes will take effect from 9 May 2022, following the first election for the directly elected mayor on 5 May 2022.
Monday’s Extraordinary Council Meeting will start at 6pm – the report is available here. Watch the meeting live at www.croydon.gov.uk/webcast.
