With beaver fever gripping the borough, it is now time for residents to have their say.

Since the Council’s announcement last month, excitement is mounting about the possibility of new furry friends getting new lodges in South Norwood Country Park. This will help enhance wildlife habitats, improve water quality and support a healthier natural environment.

The Council has now launched a survey to understand residents’ views on the idea with feedback playing an important part in determining if the project goes ahead. The survey will be open until 22 March 2026.

Alongside the survey, all are welcome to have their say by joining talks and a walk to hear more about the proposal, ask any questions and discuss any concerns.

The first talk will be happening on 12 February. There will also be an online event on 10 March. A walk around South Norwood Country Park will take place on 21 February. Places will be given on a first come first served basis and can be booked on the Council website. If events become booked up, more will be added.

The Council is working with urban rewilding experts Citizen Zoo, who were behind the introduction of the successful Ealing Beaver Project.

“There was overwhelming positivity last month when we announced that beavers could be coming to Croydon. If we get the go-ahead, it will benefit the park’s biodiversity and bring welcomed investment into the park, with a revitalised visitors’ centre.

“I encourage as many people as possible to get involved with the walks, talks and survey to find out more and to have a say on this very exciting project.

“I look forward to hearing what residents think about these exciting proposals, which will bring new neighbours and very welcome investment to South Norwood Country Park.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
