Hundreds of bags of litter cleared as hundreds of street champions help keep Croydon clean

Dedicated volunteers helped organise dozens of litter picks over the last month to help keep their communities clear.

Croydon Council works with more than 340 street champions to organise litter picks whenever suits them. Council staff supply equipment and help facilitate the litter picks.

Throughout November street champions and staff worked together to carry out 18 litter picks, more than one every other day, collecting more than 230 bags of litter.

Clean ups in November saw 35 bags of waste cleared from an alleyway in Riddlesdown along with clearing 50 tires and half a tonne of waste and recycling from an alleyway that’s frequently targeted by flytippers in Hamsey Green.

Croydon Council helps 341 street champions organise events across the entire borough.

“Each and every one of our street champions is a real hero who gives up their time to make a difference and improve their community.

“Thanks to everyone who has got involved over the past month and helped make these events possible. I’m looking forward to hearing about more success next year.”
