Elaine Jackson, Interim Chief Executive at Croydon Council, will step down from her role in September.
The interim appointment was intended to provide leadership and continuity at an important moment for the Council. The Council will now begin the process of recruiting a permanent Chief Executive.
Elaine has worked for Croydon since 2020, during some of the most challenging years in the Council’s recent history. She took on the responsibilities of Chief Executive in October 2025 and was formally appointed Interim Chief Executive in December 2025.
Elaine had originally planned to leave the Council earlier but agreed to remain in post to support the organisation through the May Mayoral and Local Elections, until a permanent Chief Executive was recruited.

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “Elaine has served Croydon with professionalism, dedication and real commitment during an important period for the Council.
“She has provided the stability and continuity we needed whilst we prepared for the appointment of a permanent Chief Executive. Her experience and support across the organisation have been invaluable, and I am extremely grateful for everything she has done.
“Over the last year, Elaine has worked incredibly hard to support our transformation work, keep the Council focused on delivery, and oversee the smooth running of the recent local elections.
“Our finances are stabilising, investment is coming into the borough, and Croydon has huge potential.
“The appointment of a permanent Chief Executive is one of the most important decisions any council can make. This person will help shape and guide Croydon through the next stage of our journey.”
Interim Chief Executive, Elaine Jackson, said: “It has been a privilege to serve as Interim Chief Executive of Croydon Council. I am proud of the work we have taken forward, including supporting the Council’s significant improvement journey and overseeing the successful delivery of the local elections.
“Croydon has faced real challenges in recent years, but it is also a borough with enormous energy, talent and potential. I want to thank the Executive Mayor, Councillors, colleagues, partners and the fantastic community for their support. I wish the Council every success as it moves into its next chapter.”
