Croydon will come together on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day to honour those who served in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Residents are invited to join The Civic Mayor, The Executive Mayor and other community leaders on Sunday 9 November for a traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street at 10.30am.

There will be a two minutes’ silence, followed by a short service of remembrance. The Civic Mayor, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, and the Deputy Lieutenant of Croydon, Colonel Ray Wilkinson, will lead the wreath-laying followed by the Royal British Legion, Executive Mayor Jason Perry, civic and faith representatives, members of the military and residents.

Anyone who wishes to lay a wreath may do so. Wreath-layers should meet outside the Spread Eagle pub on Katharine Street at 10.20am and will be called forward at the appropriate time to lay their wreath.

Later that day at 3pm, Croydon Minster will hold a Remembrance Service which members of the public are warmly invited to attend.

A further two-minutes’ silence will be observed at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street at 11am on Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November. This will be led by the Civic Mayor, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, and the Deputy Lieutenant of Croydon, Colonel Ray Wilkinson, Executive Mayor Jason Perry, and other civic leaders.

All are welcome to attend.

Civic Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Richard Chatterjee said: “Our community will come together this month to honour the courage of those who served to protect our freedoms.

“We invite residents to join us as we pause to remember not only those who gave their lives, but also those still impacted by conflict today and to share in a collective hope for peace.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon said: “This is an important time to pause and reflect. The ceremony is always such a moving reminder of the selfless sacrifices made by so many so we can live freely today. I hope residents will join us at the Cenotaph in Katharine Street on Remembrance Sunday at 10.30am and at 11am on Armistice Day, as we remember them.”
