Croydon’s town centre will become a showcase for the borough’s creative talent from 13-14 June during Art On Our Doorstep, a weekend art fair celebrating the borough’s artists, makers and cultural scene.

The art fair will shine a spotlight on the breadth of creative talent rooted in the borough, with work spanning painting, photography, textiles, ceramics and mixed media.

The Whitgift Centre will be transformed into a vibrant showcase of contemporary art, featuring 29 Croydon-connected artists, alongside exhibitions, open studios, workshops, live music and family-friendly activities. Across North End, visitors will also be able to enjoy live speed‑painting performances.

There will be activities across several venues in the Whitgift Centre. Turf Projects will open all four floors of its space for open studios, exhibitions, hands‑on creative sessions and live music.

Trinity Square will host drop‑in workshops centred on building inflatable structures, and Sainsbury’s Square will feature an interactive exhibition encouraging visitors to explore art through sound, sculpture and performance, alongside student displays.

At Pollock’s Toy Museum visitors can enjoy a hands‑on exploration of toys and theatre, including a family-friendly craft workshop.

A major highlight of the weekend will be the public reveal of the Croydon Masterpiece, a series of four large‑scale artworks created by award‑winning artist Rachel Gadsden, together with local people.

The event forms part of the wider Art On Your Doorstep programme, which has brought reproductions of 30 iconic paintings from The National Gallery collection to public spaces across Croydon since February and until 5 July.

Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the borough’s cultural scene when he announced his priorities for the first 100 days of his second term at Annual Council on 27 May. Backing cultural activity across Croydon’s district centres forms a key part of his vision to create a more vibrant borough.

“Art On Our Doorstep is a fantastic celebration of Croydon’s creativity, talent and community spirit that can be found across the borough.

“The event shines a spotlight on local artists whilst bringing more people into our town centre to enjoy everything Croydon has to offer.

“From exhibitions and workshops to live performances and family activities there is something for everyone to enjoy. I encourage residents and visitors alike to come along, support our artists and enjoy a fantastic weekend.”

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon
