Mayor Perry acts on planning and graffiti on first day in office

Croydon’s newly-elected Mayor Jason Perry has started his first day in office by announcing a series of immediate actions to deliver on his pledges to local people.

Mayor Perry announced today that he will be addressing residents’ concerns on planning by instructing officers to start the process of removing the planning design guide (SPD2) with immediate effect by revisiting the borough’s Local Plan.

Mayor Perry has previously committed to clean up Croydon and will be reintroducing the council’s graffiti removal service as an additional immediate priority

Speaking on his first day, Mayor Perry said:

“I want to thank residents for trusting me to represent our great borough and am proud to be elected as Croydon’s first Mayor. I was born and bred here and want to restore local pride and safeguard Croydon for generations to come. This is why I am taking immediate actions on issues that I know, through listening to residents, are so important to local people.

“I am also delighted to announce Councillor Lynne Hale as my Deputy Mayor as we work together to achieve these priorities and our wider vision for Croydon.”

Mayor Perry is expected to announce full appointments to his Mayoral cabinet in due course, as well as a more detailed agenda of his priorities for the council.
