I want to congratulate Croydon’s students who collected their A-level, BTEC and other exam results on Thursday. I also want to extend a huge thank you to all the staff in our borough’s schools who supported them throughout their studies. I understand that this can be a worrying time for students and parents alike, but there is lots of support available for students who didn’t get the grades they needed or don’t know what to do next. Our Post 16 Participation Team are here to help. Call 020 8726 7485, email Post16@croydon.gov.uk, or visit our website for more information.

Improving our roads and parking

I know how important it is for our residents that connectivity and the condition of our roads are the best they can be. I am committed to delivering on improvements and have approved a £12.5m highways capital programme for 2024/25, as well as a new five-year Highway Asset Management Strategy. Through careful planning, this investment in the future of our roads will improve infrastructure and support the regeneration of Croydon. Find out more.

We’ve listened to our residents and introduced free overnight parking in seven car parks in our town and district centres. This change will reduce spending on parking for our residents and will be a welcome boost to local businesses. It follows another new parking policy that will see one hour of free parking in district and other local centres and reduced prices in West Croydon Station car park.

Celebrating Jagannath Rathyatra

I was delighted to join the Hare Krishna festival of Jagannath Rathyatra, celebrating 14 years of this vibrant tradition in our town centre. It was wonderful to see everyone come together for Saturday’s event and huge thanks to ISKCON South London for their dedication to our community.

Pakistan Independence Day and India Independence Day

Many residents attended the two flag raising events outside the Town Hall this week – to commemorate both Pakistan Independence Day on 14 August and India Independence Day on 15 August. It was a moment to acknowledge the enormous contributions of these two communities here in Croydon.

Best of luck next week for our GCSE students getting their results on 22 August!

Have a good weekend.
