As the school holidays draw to a close, I hope all our children, young people and families have enjoyed a great summer. This week I visited Moving Matters, at Archbishop Lanfranc School, Majestic Summer Project at Croydon Voluntary Action, and Fit 4 Future at Rockmount Primary School, three of the many Healthy Activities and Food (HAF) clubs we’ve organised to keep children and young people active and entertained over the break. It was great to see them in action. In addition to holiday clubs, Croydon has also enjoyed a great summer cultural programme. The Queen’s Garden Party on Saturday was a really fantastic event, despite the weather. Heading into September, I want to wish all our children and young people, schools and colleges, the very best for their upcoming term.
Cleaner, safer Croydon
Our crackdown on abandoned vehicles continued this week, as we removed a further five from Parchmore Road in Thornton Heath. We’re listening to residents on this – local people are rightly frustrated when untaxed cars are dumped on our streets, creating an eyesore and taking up parking spaces. Council teams are working with the DVLA to tackle the problem and send a clear message that this will not be tolerated.
Making a difference in our communities
I want to congratulate two local organisations on reaching their 10-year anniversaries. Mula Cake Kids Club helps so many children and young people in Croydon, providing inclusive holiday clubs for children and young people; Yew Tree Court is a retirement housing complex in Sanderstead helping people to live independent lives for longer. Both make a real difference in Croydon’s communities – it was great to visit you both this week and thank you for all you do.
Good luck Thomas!
Finally, Croydon is rooting for our Paralympic hopeful Thomas Young as he takes on the 100m sprint in the 2024 Paralympic Games. Good luck Thomas – we’re behind you all the way!

Executive Mayor of Croydon
